The Music Center offers the greater Washington DC metro area the

first and foremost premiere music and movement programs for babies, toddlers, young children, children and those grown children called adults.
Based upon a belief that building the love of music and making music

are the magical keys to opening one's heart and mind. The Music Center

offers age appropriate classes each incorporating the philosophies,

methods, and pedagogies of Suzuki, Dalcroze, Orff, Kodaly and Gordon

all together in a holistic mind-body-spirit approach using the curriculums

and programs of Music Together® for ages 0-4 years, Kindermusik® for ages

3-7 years and Musikgarten® for ages 7+ years.

The Music Center also does offer private lessons for cello, piano,

violin and beginning guitar.  New for this year - AP Music Theory tutoring

for indiviuals or small groups.

Music is vital in constructing a harmonious and secure environment

that helps children grow healthy and confident That is why we offer

classes throughout early childhood, beginning at birth and continuing

through grade school. We research shows that learning and playing music

also keeps the adult brain active and vital. We even offer adult music lessons.

For children of all ages, our classes will:

          •  Provide an enriched environment to engage the children's

musical aptitude and intelligence from birth.

      • Encourage infant's and children's participation and motor

response through age-appropriate music and movement activities.

      • Enhance a children's natural aural perception and help them

develop a musical sense and a sense of beat.

           •  Awaken children's natural curiosity and response to music.

Allow infants to learn to sing at the same time that they

                 learn to talk.

Encourage the pleasure of listening to and making music at home,

so that children grow up with a genuine love and appreciation

                  of music.

In all of the early childhood classes, parents should be aware that

their children may or many not participate as they choose and will do

so according to their developmental level. The class experience, reinforced

by CD listening and parent modeling involvement, stimulates learning at

home through play. All children can learn to singin tune, keep a beat,

and participate in the music of our culture, provided that their

early environment supports such learning.

 On composers:

In order to compose, all you need to do is remember a tune that nobody else has thought of.                                                             ---Robert Schumann (1810-1856) German composer

The good composer is slowly discovered; the bad composer is slowly found out.

---Ernest Newman (1868-1959) British music critic

                An Unnamed Italian Pianist

This pianist once reached a fermata,

And went out for a pina colada.

                                                            He returned in an hour

                                                            To an audience sour,

so he yelled out "Hey whatsadermata?"

                                                            ("Was a longa fermata!")

            IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:

How is The Music Center different from other places who offer

               music classes and lessons?

               Why choose The Music Center?

               Answers:

               1.  We are not a large, impersonal center.

Our classes are not "over-booked" or large.

               2.  In contrast to many locations for children's classes, our space is

very clean and bright, comfortable and child safe.

               3.  Students do not need to wear nametags because everyone is known

                   at sight by name.

               4.  The teachers are highly trained professionals whose focus is

first and foremost on the students.
